Music Publishing Primer

I’m trying to get the ball rolling on these blog posts but I don’t have a whole lot of time to sit down and write anything.  I’ll start by sharing this great resource I found on music publishing.

If you’re looking at this you probably realize that publishing is a HUGE revenue source for songwriters (and even, in some cases, featured artists).  This is a very highly complicated area of business and law that is understood by few, particularly because it’s not very intuitive and there are many similarly-named details that come into play.  Judging by the constant litigation and general lack of information on the internet about publishing, I’d say that even the people who shape the industry aren’t even sure how it works sometimes.  Nonetheless, there is a general structure that everyone refers to.
